Chapter-3
Personal reaction:
At first, I felt that the ideas given by the writer in this chapter were easy to understand. I learned the steps of writing essays in my previous classes, but this chapter made it more clear. It mentioned that finding the main hints, main ideas, and key factors are very essential while we are writing essays. This chapter gave me the idea of recognizing the patterns of writing. It also helps me to understand the importance of  formal outlines in making the essay stronger. Another thing is that sometimes I make a lot of mistakes in the introduction part, but this chapter has provided the relevant facts of what we should not do while writing an introduction. So, now I can improve my skills to write papers.  This chapter has provided brief information to develop writing skills. In overall, I learned lot of things in this chapter. I am so happy because this class has shown me more ways to learn and understand. I  will put my great effort to achieve my goal.
Professional reaction:
It is interesting chapter for an English learner with a lot of information, details, and examples. Here, the writer has stated all the steps of writing essays in chronological order. Firstly, the writer has explained about introduction, in which he has discussed different ways of introduction patterns which will create the interest of readers. Secondly, the author has clearly mentioned that body paragraphs should be well organized and emphasize the thesis statement. I learned that the body paragraphs have to be detailed with examples, facts, quotes, and reasons. In that way, readers will easily understand the matter which the writer wants to express. Thirdly, author mentioned that in essays the conclusion is most essential part. Conclusions restate the thesis statement. Conclusions can also be the warning and suggestion to the readers. At last, the chapter concluded that formal outlines are a very important and easy way to create strong paper.

This chapter shows how to arrange an essay effectively.  I still struggle to write essays in English because I am a foreigner from South Korea.  Yet, I learned many things while I was reading this chapter.  This book uses many examples to show how to organize an essay, which I like.  It really helps me a lot to understand. It showed the basic process of how to build my writing.
Most of all, an essay should have a purpose. Narration essays, for example, and cause and effect essays can be written in different patterns.  Then, this chapter shows how to write the introduction, body, and conclusion paragraphs.
I learned how I can put the thesis statement in the introduction, how to support the main topic in the body paragraphs, and how to restate the thesis statement in the conclusion. There are many examples, such as transition words, types of support, and many exercises which I can practice.
I think the most important point in this reading is build up a formal outline.  I think it will help a lot when having a hard time writing.  I hope I can finish this English class successfully through these effective methods.

Interview

The new semester has started.  I came from South Korea, and I am taking this English class to develop my English skill.  I expect to meet new people.  I interviewed Irina during our first English class. There are a few special things about her.
First, Irina is not a poet, but she likes to write. She uses narrative writing form most often, and she has a habit to write to-do lists. Second, Irina is familiar with the computer. She owns a computer and get online at home. She know how to use Microsoft Word and social networking. She likes to say hello to her family and friends through Facebook and Instagram. Finally, although she is not familiar with the FRCC library, she uses the online FRCC library. She finds some information when she needs to.
Irina and I have a lot in common. We both use English as a second language. She came from Nepal and I am Korean. Irina has set writing goals for this class to know how to develop and organize writing and use citations properly. I also want to develop my writing with a better vocabulary. We both have a fear of workshopping and argument writing because we are not good at English. I hope we both achieve our goals eventually through this class.

Interview

It was a pleasure to get to know a person from different place:  Oksoon Park from South Korea who has now moved to the United States. It is obvious that people face difficulties with understanding and speaking a second language perfectly and this is the same case for Mrs. Park. She said that she is having a hard time speaking and writing English fluently with perfection. She knew that she would have to struggle in every step of the learning systems. From her point of view, she often used narrative forms of writing, and she makes lists and prepares outlines for writing. Additionally, Oksoon mentioned that the ESL and CCR-092-100 classes helped her a lot, as she got the chance to discuss and understand things closely and interactively through being with friends and the instructor. Furthermore, she said that she has facilities related with computers and Internet and has a little bit of experience and knowledge about programs like MS Word and Excel. As in the case of social networking she uses the Korean media kakao talk and whatsapp. Although she has a great and positive experience with her instructors and classes at Front Range Community College, she mentioned that she is still not familiar with other resources of campus like the campus library and the online library. In contrast, she said that she has interacted with the student success centre and has gotten a lot of help from there.

At last, she has great expectations for this class. She said she has developed her writing and reading skills more after attending previous classes in this college and she hopes to achieve more in this class. She stated that CCR 092 helped her a lot to improve her English skills and English 121 is another essential tool to make her writing and reading skills more critical and logical. She said that she wants to develop her writing skills in a critical way. As Oksoon is new in the United States and the education system is different from her country, she often has trouble with writing and engaging in workshops. If people have the effort to learn vigorously then they will be successful in their life. Oksoon has made the effort to learn and she will put more enthusiasm into learning more new things in her life.
