Internet source evaluation

http://static.filmannex.com/users/galleries/300183/Internet_2_fa_rszd.jpg
Google is an easily accessible webpage which allows people to search for a lot of information on various topics. I looked up effects of global warming and I got various details.  When I was searching the topic on effect of global warming, some other information also popped out on the last page and side of the webpage.  It took my attention, but that was a positive effect for me, because in that way I got the chance to find out more details about global warming.  The website I looked has general details about my topic, and I think it is a credible website. The article is written by Alina Bradford and published on 17 December, 2014(11.15 pm ET). The author has cited properly and has given credit to other sources. The links I looked at have relevant information with depth which readers can understand clearly.  Writers have provided historical research data as well as recent data.  The article has provided details with facts and statistics.  The article’s purpose is to inform and persuade.
I have understood that global warming is caused by human activities.  The author has put a lot of details about how global warming is effecting our natural environment, species, and human health.
I searched for data based information on global warming, but it was hard to get fully textual information.  Finally, I got the article which was published in the Washington Post. I got chance to read some of the really interesting facts about the effects of global warming.  This article didn't provide many details, but it's has some good details about global climate trends. In this article, Mr. Lamborghini claimed that, “more intense precipitation will reduce water scarcity without noting the increase risk of loss of lives and property from the flooding."

Evaluating Internet sources

Part one

I have not decided about my research paper’s topic yet. However, I found some information about suicide rates in South Korea for this assignment. The site I saw was http://www.koreaherald.com/view.php?ud=20150830000310. I noticed that my county, South Korea, has the highest rates of suicide among Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) countries. This site provides a lot of information about suicide rates compare to other countries. According to this article, the suicide rates among students are increasing.

Evaluation of Website

  •      This site clearly states the author and organization name, The Korea Herald.
  •       The purpose of this site is to inform. The information is not biased, it gives accurate      information to readers.
  •    This site has been updated.
  •          The link is relevant and appropriate for the topic.

Part two

The article I found from the database is “The Impact of Improving Suicide Death Classification in South Korea: A Comparison with Japan and Hong Kong.” This article also provides a lot of information about suicide rates in South Korea, but this article analyzes the topic more professionally.

Evaluating Internet Resources
Part One:
Searching many things on Google is very common to do by many of us. I searched about cosmetic surgery affecting teenagers and there were many results. On the sides of this website there are no advertising but as soon as a link is open there are many advertising on the sides of the page. All the information about the topic is in the center of the page. The advertisements are a little distracting to me because when I see something moving I usually get distracted. However, sometimes there are additional information that can help and these are usually located at the left margin of the page. These are somewhat related to the topic but not exactly. At the bottom of the articles there's always information on where the author got their information from and some include certifications. The article provided all the sources that the author used. The site that I looked at looks credible. The Google result took me to a website called WebMD and the tittle name of the article I looked at is Teens and Plastic Surgery. In this article it tells why teenagers seek for plastic surgery. Would you like to know why? According to this article, most teens seek plastic surgery to improve their appearance or to increase self-esteem ("Teens and Plastic Surgery"). This article provided a lot of information that to me seemed credible looking at the sources. This article was is meant to inform and is an appropriate publication.
Part Two:
I tried searching my topic on databases but it was really hard to find at least one article under the peer-reviewed journal section. At last I was able to find a source that might be useful. I noticed that on database there are no advertisements which is a really good thing. This shows right away that everything on database is professional and credible. Even though the source that I found does not give me the full text it tells me what it will be about. A part of the summary made me think that this would be a good source for my essay because it says "The second part of the book is probably the most useful since it focuses on specific body issues" (Eames). This can give a lot of information regarding the issues that surgery has. I know that everything said on this article is credible because it provides a source. The source that this article provides is named Consumer Connections. It has all the information needed to prove that everything is correct. Comparing it with the WebMD I have to say that to me both seemed like they have their sources in place. The only thing is that on the database everything seems more credible because not only it doesn't have any advertisements but it also provides all of its sources. In my opinion I like the database a lot more but there are not enough articles on my topic and on Google there are many articles about it. The styles are also a little different but similar in a way. The text is set up the same, however, on the right side margin they are way different. On the database it provides many useful tools which I love and on the WebMD it has many advertisements.

Blog Review #2

Among our class blogs, there are two blogs which I am very interested in. One is “Five Brains are Better Than One, and the other is “TECHNOGORGE”.
I think these two blogs have catchy titles which will cause people to be curious. The blog “Five Brains are Better Than One” also caught my attention with color. The soft red color of the blog attracted my attention. Otherwise “TECHNOGORGE” seems to have subdued color, but I think the gray color is compatible with the title perfectly.
These blogs did a great job, however, I chose “Five Brains are Better than One” based on the Blog Quality Criteria. This blog has a catchy title, attractive color, good structure so it is easy to find other links, and good writing.
Overall, “Five Brains are Better Than One” is good in appearance as well as easy to understand.

Blog review 2

It was really interesting to look each blog from mine and other classes. When I was going through all the blogs I was cohered by every blog I reviewed. Most of the blogs seem to be more creative and clearly visualize, but among all "GiveUhDogABlog" surprised me alot. I noticed that my blog is so simple and need to make more fascinating and interesting. I understand and learned so many matters from this blog, which can help me to make my blog more creative.
This blog(GiveUhDogABlog) has very organized layout. The blog can be viewed in chronological order. In our blog we have to scroll all the way down to view the content. However, in this blog we can take the glance at each topic by different formats like classic, flipcard, magazine, mosaic, sidebar, snapshot, and timeslide. Overall, this blog clearly reflect the every contents.
In terms of writing also they are really good. Writings are well organized with excellent vocabularies and word mechanics. As for our blog I think we need to build up our word mechanics and try to use more complex vocabularies to develop our high academic levels. This blog has also got very attractive and funny pictures to attract the readers. Pictures have also visualize the contents of the writings. Moreover, there are some contents in this blog which is not labeled.
At last, it is really attractive blog with best visualizations and writings. This blog makes me a lot to understand, which can help me to bring more clarity on my blog.

Blog Review 2

Creative Minds
As I was looking at every class blog, one blog really stuck out to me for many reasons. The  way the blog is structure makes it really easy to understand. It looks neat and it also has a nice background. The blog that I liked the best is called Creative Minds. I also liked their tittle, I think that it's a good tittle. I could learn some things from this blog to make sure my blog looks nice as well.
The blog has pictures on every single post which makes it look nice. It's not all about writting and by having pictures on every single post doesn't make it look boring. On the contrary it makes it look very interesting. On my blog not every post has a picture and that's something I should change. For example, on the outline I made for my partner I did not include a picture to the post. The blog Creative Minds actually included a picture to their outlines.
Their writing is also well organized. It looks very proffesional to me. All their writing have a great structure which makes their writing easy to read and follow. The content it self is also well written. It all makes sense and most of the posts have a lot to say which is a good thing. There's plenty to read but not too much to make someone bored of having to read too much. I could probably write a little more on the reading responses.
Overall, this blog is doing a great job. I like everything about the blog. They have a nice background, writing, and looks neat. It's also easy to understand the blog which I found difficult on some other blogs. I really liked the Creative Minds blog.

Chapter 14: Argumentation

We often argue with friends, family, or co-workers in our daily life. For example, “Is a vegetarian diet really good for your health?”, or “Do second marriages have a higher divorce rate than first-marriages?” I cannot stake my claim with just my opinion.  A small argument could turn into a fight if I do not have logical evidence.  An argument is not a fight.  An argument is making a point about a subject and supporting it with evidence. What I learned from this chapter is how argumentation and persuasion are different, and I also learned that an argument can be supported with 3 types of evidence such as logic, ethics, and emotions. I am perplexed that I have to recognize how I can avoid many logical fallacies while writing an argumentation essay. I think the most important point in this chapter is choosing a debatable topic, and supporting the topic with evidence, which should be relevant, representative, typical, and sufficient.

Argumentation

It is really interesting chapter with lot of details, which can help to write strong argumentation paper. The most surprising point for me on this chapter was difference in argumentation and persuasion. The new subject matter I learned from this chapter is about deductive and inductive argument.
     This chapter gives main layouts to make strong argumentative essay, which includes various steps like;
- selection of topic,
-necessary to make debatable thesis statement,
-support the thesis statement by collecting different evidences,
-evidences should be relevant and sufficient to support the main idea,
-most importantly, credential for the evidence is essential while writing argumentation paper,
-lastly, opposing view point is important to make the paper strong.

Argumentation

An argumentative essay sounds very interesting. It can change the way one views an idea. Something that stuck out to me was that persuasion and argumentation do not have the same meaning. I always thought that they were similar. But by putting these together can give you a strong essay. Something I learned is that having the right topic to write about is very important. The topic should also have enough evidence to support the debate. The most important points here are how to use deductive and inductive arguments. It teaches us how to use them and personally it was a little hard to understand at first. It's a big part of the essay. I'm looking forward to writing this challenging essay. It sounds interesting to read and write about an argument.
