Blog Review

We all have different favorite blogs. Oksoon's favorite blog is Underground New York Public Library. Irina's favorite blog is Mark Reads, and Maritza's favorite blog is Mental_Floss. We all reviewed them and came to a conclusion that Mental_Floss is the best one.
In Mental_Floss blog, there is a lot of information in the different forms like interesting facts, big questions, hypersonic, videos, lists, and quizzes. In contrast, Underground New York Public Library has the good information about books, but it has not sufficient information. In Mark Reads blog it is a little hard to understand for us. Unlike on Mental_Floss everything is well  organized and easy to understand.
In our point of view,  the Mental_Floss blog is  the most informative to follow. However, it is the people's choice which blog they want to follow.

As I was reading chapter 3 many things captured my attention. I learned many things throughout. The first thing that stuck out to me was the title a”Arrangement.” As soon as I read it I immediately knew it was going to be helpful. Structure really captured my attention. I’ve had assignments where structure is not specified which made the assignment twice as hard. Knowing what structure to use in an essay always gives me a headache. Fortunately, the checklist the book has to recognize a pattern is descent to go back and use as a guide. However, when I read the checklist of what not to include in an introduction really surprised me. The reason why is because in a few of my past essays I’ve included some of the points mentioned. For example, don’t apologize.” For this reason the main important points in the reading are the checklists in chapter 3. Even though, all the information given in the reading was great I wish “How to make a great thesis” was amplified. I know I'll learn this throughout the semester. Overall, I learned a lot in this chapter even things I thought I already knew.

Interview

Today I interview Kevin which was really interesting. Kevin 20 years of age likes writing, he says “I’m pretty decent at it.” Being a good organizer helps him. That being said I asked, “Is it your habit to write to-do-lists?” His answer was a no. He writes music and he also tried raping it but raping just wasn’t for him because according to him he wasn’t very good at it. He says he’s not a poet but in a way he is for writing music. Something he’s good at is writing a thesis for any kind of writing. Currently, he only does short writing at his job and sending emails to his dad. He works at a sport store where he sometimes writes reports. Kevin sends weekly emails to his dad who lives in Chicago. Kevin was raised in Chicago and started college in Chicago as well. He went to Western Illinois University and Harper Community College. One of the classes that he took at WIU was English 121. Something they did in that class was peer work shopping. He said “It was difficult.” He explained that college in Chicago is way different from Colorado but he likes to expand his writing knowledge. He moved to Colorado a year ago and signed up to Front Range community College. He is giving English 121 another try. His goals this time are to work more on his weakness which are conclusions and “try to learn knowledge I already have.” Some problems he thinks he’ll be having are checking his D2L and going to his blog. Another thing he thinks he’ll have a problem with is having his portfolio with all his work. In Chicago he had the habit of throwing away his papers once graded. At the moment he’s not very familiar with the campus or the library since his first semester at FRCC was last semester. One of the advantages he has to be in English 121 is that he is a very good internet navigator. He also knows how to use computers very well. A reason why is because he took a computer class in high school. He has a laptop and a desktop at home which he uses to send emails and use Microsoft Word. He also listens to Pandora. On his playlist you’ll find rap and rock music. Interviewing Kevin was fun and interesting.

Chapter-3
Personal reaction:
At first, I felt that the ideas given by the writer in this chapter were easy to understand. I learned the steps of writing essays in my previous classes, but this chapter made it more clear. It mentioned that finding the main hints, main ideas, and key factors are very essential while we are writing essays. This chapter gave me the idea of recognizing the patterns of writing. It also helps me to understand the importance of  formal outlines in making the essay stronger. Another thing is that sometimes I make a lot of mistakes in the introduction part, but this chapter has provided the relevant facts of what we should not do while writing an introduction. So, now I can improve my skills to write papers.  This chapter has provided brief information to develop writing skills. In overall, I learned lot of things in this chapter. I am so happy because this class has shown me more ways to learn and understand. I  will put my great effort to achieve my goal.
Professional reaction:
It is interesting chapter for an English learner with a lot of information, details, and examples. Here, the writer has stated all the steps of writing essays in chronological order. Firstly, the writer has explained about introduction, in which he has discussed different ways of introduction patterns which will create the interest of readers. Secondly, the author has clearly mentioned that body paragraphs should be well organized and emphasize the thesis statement. I learned that the body paragraphs have to be detailed with examples, facts, quotes, and reasons. In that way, readers will easily understand the matter which the writer wants to express. Thirdly, author mentioned that in essays the conclusion is most essential part. Conclusions restate the thesis statement. Conclusions can also be the warning and suggestion to the readers. At last, the chapter concluded that formal outlines are a very important and easy way to create strong paper.
